JN-NRI-Property

In recent times there was a shocking occurrence – an NRI based in Africa was cheated of his property purchased for his mother by his sibling based in India.

The NRI had purchased a house in the name of his mother – he did not visit India for long. When he did, he was shocked to see that his brother had built a second floor on his property and had shifted in with family and baggage. The NRI was helpless and could not take recourse to any remedial measures.  One can only imagine the shock that the NRI must have felt on seeing this sad turnaround.

A noted lawyer has stated the need for strict protection of land and properties of  Indians based abroad. Most Indians take the help of their near and dear ones, a relative or friend to monitor their property. This has been the case since a long time, but unfortunately, it is now proving to be dangerous.

According to legal experts, if property is inherited by legal experts in India, care should be taken of these properties. A proper legal documentation route must be adopted – municipal and other appropriate taxes  should be paid on time, if possible, only cheques should be used to make such payments and zerox copies should be made of these and kept safely.

NRIs’ have to understand that if their own property is not looked after by them on a regular basis they could fall into the wrong hands, and it has to be accepted that there are many dubious and unscrupulous people in India who connive with others to cheat NRIS’s of their property.

WHAT IS THE WAY OUT?

One way is to make the laws and regulations for NRI property very strict. Laws of succession in India are still very weak, and property is scarcely divided between family members in the correct manner. No wonder, NRIS’ are always in a state of insecurity when it comes to their own property.

Another secure alternative is to stay informed of all the “goings on” on the property. Jahernotice is a portal that helps NRIs’ to keep their property protected by sending them alerts and notifications on a regular basis. So, even if the NRI does not visit his homeland he can still keep himself updated about any illegal transactions that transpire on the property.

NRIs’, the time to secure your land and property has come – the solutions are already in place , just so that you can stay safe, get secured and putting it simply, just relax!
