LAND RECORDS – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW! -
Thu. Apr 25th, 2024

The way land records are being maintained in India has come a long way – in the past, during the reign of kings and emperors land revenue was an important source of income – later on, came the British who helped to standardize the system a bit. However, land records have always witnessed a general apathy, a lack of transparency and rampant corruption. This has made it very difficult for the common man, especially illiterate villagers to know his rights. Having realized that such problems exist the Government of India started the National Land Records Modernization Program(NLRMP) – the aim here was to initiate the task of standardization and computerization of records all over India in a phased manner.

What is the program all about?

Launched by the Government of India in 2008 the Land Records program aims towards:

  • Management of Land Records
  • Minimize scope of land/property disputes
  • Infuse transparency into the Land Records Maintenance system
  • Facilitate moving towards guaranteed conclusive titles in the country.
