The main purpose of the notices issued by a government agency or legislative body is to create awareness about some policy-making or implementation of some law or regulations. It is issued by government to notify the citizens of the nation about it.

In some countries, notices are issued by government to ask the opinion of the general population before making or implementing new policies or laws. Generally, it is issued by those who are seeking approval for liquor license, a reasoning or modification or some other minor sanctions in which they require the permission of local state government, city council, country commission or Municipal Corporation.

These types of notices are published in the national and local newspapers in the form of advertisement and on the official website of respective government or legislative body. In rare cases, it is also published in renowned magazines and other periodicals.

Government or semi-government companies also issue tender notices for any public sector unit contracts and schemes to welcome bidding by private associations and companies.

By Private Institutions or Individuals:

Public notices are issued by private organizations or individuals mostly in the case of any disputes or legal proceedings, mainly by the attorneys or legal adviser of a company or an individual.

One of the highest published types of ads by individuals is the notices related to the real estate industry, mostly land and property dispute related ads. However, sometimes it also depicts property rates of different areas of particular city also published by real estate associations.

These types of notices are published in local newspapers for the convenience of language. The main areas covered by these types of ads are about title clearing of any property, claim of ownership on land or other real estate property, adjustment or change in ownership, illegal possession of the property, etc.

In these public notice ads, a plaintiff gives a certain amount of time to the opposite party to respond related to the concern subject mentioned in the notice. If the opposing party fails to respond, the case automatically goes in favor of a plaintiff and his client. In the era of the internet and other digital technology, there are many online websites available which post these ads on their pages, which saves a lot of time and resources for the people concerned.

Likewise, some nationalized or private banks or financial institutions also give ads in newspapers to remind about the pending loans for their customers or to inform about the custody or possession of any customer’s property due to failing of payments.

Furthermore, some companies publish public notices in the different newspapers, magazines or in virtual media to respond to any negative news or rumors which could hurt or tarnish the company’s image and reputation.

Though the newspaper is the most popular medium of publishing public notices, some ads are given by different mediums like radio, television, electronic mail (e-mail), etc.
